VFL Premiership Coach Stewart Edge Joins Sydney Swans Recruiting Team! (2026)

Big news for the Sydney Swans! They've just snagged VFL premiership coach Stewart Edge to bolster their recruiting department for the 2026 season. This move promises to shake things up!

Edge, fresh off leading Footscray to victory in 2025, also snagged the VFL Coach of the Year award – for the second time in his five seasons with the Western Bulldogs' reserves program. Talk about a winning track record!

Edge's experience runs deep. Before his recent success, he spent a decade at the Mission Whitten Oval, contributing to three VFL premierships and the 2016 flag. He left the Bulldogs in October, with former Sydney defender Alex Johnson taking over the VFL side.

But here's where it gets interesting: Edge had offers from other AFL clubs, but chose the Swans, joining their recruiting team after a pre-Christmas process. This decision could be a game-changer for Sydney.

The Swans were on the hunt to replace veteran recruiter Kinnear Beatson, who's now shifting to a part-time role in the academy and father-son program. Edge will be working from the South Melbourne office, under the guidance of head of list strategy Chris Keane and national recruiting manager John Giramondo. Ross Monaghan will be covering South Australia and Western Australia for Sydney.

Sydney's General Manager of Football, Leon Cameron, knows Edge from their early days at Greater Western Sydney. Edge had a stint coaching the Sandringham Dragons in the Talent League before that.

The Swans' football department is undergoing a significant transformation for 2026. They've also brought in Melbourne premiership coach Simon Goodwin as the new director of coaching and performance.

And there's more! Richmond great Wayne Campbell has joined as head of academy, returning to New South Wales after a stint at Gold Coast. Jeremy Laidler is also back as an assistant coach under Dean Cox.

This is a lot of change!

Fremantle legend Matthew Pavlich stepped into the CEO role in October, replacing Tom Harley, who departed in August.

The Swans are already gearing up for the season. They began pre-season training last Thursday and are ramping up preparations for the Opening Round. They'll face the Western Bulldogs in a match simulation on February 19 and then take on Greater Western Sydney in the AAMI Community Series on February 26.

What do you think of these changes? Do you think Edge's addition will significantly impact the Swans' recruiting success? Share your thoughts in the comments!
