Tecno Camon 50 Ultra Review: Camera, Display, and Performance (2026)

The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra: A Camera Powerhouse, Almost.

The Tecno Camon series takes a step forward, but not without some trade-offs. While the Ultra model might not reach the Premier's heights, it still boasts an impressive camera setup. With a triple rear camera and a powerful selfie shooter, it's a compelling choice for mobile photography enthusiasts.

But here's where it gets interesting: the rear camera setup has some surprises. The main and telephoto cameras feature 50MP sensors, but the ultrawide camera takes a step down with a more modest 8MP sensor. This is where the controversy begins - is this a necessary compromise or a missed opportunity?

Rear Camera Setup:

  • Main Camera: The 50MP Sony sensor delivers excellent daylight photos with vibrant colors and great dynamic range. However, the 50MP shots reveal heavy sharpening, indicating a software-driven approach. Human subjects look fantastic, with well-judged exposures and lively skin tones.
  • Telephoto Camera: The 3x telephoto camera provides decent results, but it's not without quirks. Outdoor scenes can appear blurry, and detail rendering is a bit average. The 50MP sensor doesn't seem to offer a significant advantage here.
  • Ultrawide Camera: With an 8MP sensor, the ultrawide camera is a bit underwhelming. It captures decent shots but lacks autofocus, which might disappoint some users. Shadows can be soft and grainy, but overall, it's a functional addition.

Selfie Camera:

The front camera is a standout feature, producing excellent selfies with great detail and colors. The wide field of view and autofocus make it a versatile tool for self-portraits and group shots.

Low-Light Performance:

  • Main Camera: In low-light conditions, the main camera continues to impress. Photos are sharp and detailed, with good dynamic range and accurate white balance. A slight over-sharpening is noticeable, but it's a minor trade-off for the overall quality.
  • Telephoto Camera: The telephoto camera struggles a bit in low light. Photos can appear mushy and desaturated, with coarse detail in well-lit areas. White balance issues are more prominent here.
  • Ultrawide Camera: Ultrawide low-light photos are soft and not ideal for close inspection. However, they offer bright exposures and decent dynamic range from a distance.

Video Quality:

The Tecno Camon 50 Ultra can record 4K30 videos with the main, telephoto, and selfie cameras. While the main and telephoto cameras produce acceptable daytime videos, the ultrawide camera's footage is less appealing. Interestingly, all three cameras perform decently in low-light video recording, and the stabilization is commendable.

And this is the part most people miss: despite some shortcomings, the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra offers a compelling camera experience, especially for its price point. But is it a worthy upgrade from its predecessor? That's a question for the audience to ponder and discuss. What do you think? Is the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra a step in the right direction, or are there better options out there?
