Pedro Acosta's Future: KTM Exit Confirmed by Manager (2026)

Pedro Acosta’s manager has all but indicated that a departure from KTM is imminent.

Albert Valera, who manages Acosta, was embroiled in two significant contractual disputes during the 2025 Formula 1 season. One of the most prominent issues involved an attempt to enforce an exit clause in Jorge Martin’s contract with Aprilia, allowing the reigning world champion to switch to Honda. However, Aprilia contested the validity of this clause, and Dorna ultimately sided with them, compelling Martin to remain with the team.

Meanwhile, Acosta has been quietly exploring options to break free from his KTM contract, engaging in discussions with the VR46 team, which is a Ducati satellite squad. The same principle that applied to Martin—that riders cannot unilaterally break contracts without their team's consent—also holds true for Acosta.

This brings up an intriguing question: if Acosta were to join Ducati, would it create unnecessary tension within the team dynamics?

As the end of the current year approaches, Acosta’s contract is set to expire, coinciding with many other riders in the field. Remarkably, Acosta has secured ten podium finishes within his first two seasons, making him one of the most sought-after talents on the MotoGP grid.

Valera recently shared insights during an interview with Motorsport Espana at the Aprilia launch, where he was present alongside Martin. There continues to be speculation regarding Acosta's potential link to the VR46 team, and Valera confirmed that they are indeed a viable option for Acosta’s future. However, he emphasized that the priority remains to secure a place with a factory team.

Although Acosta is currently signed with KTM, Valera's comments suggest that his tenure there may soon come to an end, and he notably did not refer to Acosta’s existing team. It seemed as though Valera regarded Acosta's exit as a mere formality, with the only outstanding question being his next destination.

Is it becoming inevitable that Pedro Acosta will join Ducati? This topic certainly invites further discussion. Share your thoughts below!

Valera remarked, "There are opportunities with nearly all teams. Is it a possibility? Absolutely. Ducati, along with Aprilia, boasts one of the best bikes out there, so why not consider it?"

He added, "Naturally, every rider aims for a spot on a factory team; that will be our primary objective. However, if that doesn’t materialize, we must have contingency plans in place. I reiterate, our foremost goal is to strive for a factory team, whether that be Ducati or another brand.

When questioned about the timeline for a potential move, Valera explained, "We can’t afford to wait for the 2027 bikes to be unveiled; it’s going to be a gamble since new regulations are incoming and everything will start anew. We need to take calculated risks and trust the teams we are considering.

"What will truly matter is for each rider to select the right people they want to collaborate with in 2027 and beyond—those they believe will provide them with a better machine and a more satisfying experience.

"Unlike in previous years, I feel it’s pointless to wait and see what the new bikes will look like. I anticipate that the market will shift rapidly, and many riders’ fates will likely be decided early in the upcoming season."

VR46 director Uccio Salucci has openly expressed admiration for Acosta’s riding style, describing it as a ‘rare’ talent. In a recent statement, Salucci said, "I’m enamored with him and his performance on the track. He’s someone who can adapt his style multiple times during a race based on the situation—a truly uncommon ability.

"Last year, we briefly discussed a potential opportunity with him, but it proved quite challenging due to other commitments, including Franco, one of our current riders. Acosta and Aldeguer, both young talents, are exceptional."

Valentino Rossi hinted that he already has a vision for his rider lineup in 2027, although he hasn’t revealed any details yet. It's conceivable that Acosta could sign with Ducati and still ride for the satellite team, but this arrangement might be perceived as less advantageous.

Interestingly, Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola has speculated that Ducati might sign Acosta to replace Francesco Bagnaia, potentially creating an exciting partnership with Marc Marquez.

What do you think about these developments? Could Acosta's move to Ducati change the landscape of MotoGP? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments!
