A former teacher's inspiring message to Strictly's Karen Carney: 'Keep that smile and keep dancing!'
As Karen Carney waltzed her way into the Strictly Come Dancing final, her former PE teacher, Tom Seickell, couldn't help but reminisce about her remarkable journey.
"It's been over two decades since I taught her, but her steady determination has always been evident. She was an exceptional student, hardworking, and dedicated. Her passion and soul shone through in everything she did, and it's incredible to see that reflected in her dance performances," Seickell shared.
Carney, alongside her partner Carlos Gu, dominated the competition with an emotional Waltz and an energetic Samba, scoring an impressive 78 out of 80 points.
"Week one, who could have predicted this? She's blown everyone away with her talent and dedication. Her progress throughout the competition has been awe-inspiring," Mr. Seickell remarked.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Long before women's football gained mainstream popularity, Mr. Seickell witnessed Carney's pioneering spirit in girls' football.
"She'll be the first to admit that opportunities for female athletes were limited back then. Yet, her talent and passion for the sport were undeniable. She was destined for greatness," he added.
Indeed, Carney's impressive football career speaks for itself. She is England's third-most-capped player, having competed in four World Cups, four European Championships, and the London Olympics. She also played for prestigious clubs like Birmingham City, Chelsea, and Arsenal.
And this is the part most people miss...
Mr. Seickell believes Carney's success on the dance floor is a testament to her all-round talent.
"Naturally, you want to see all the dancers succeed, but she's been exceptional. To see her growth as a dancer is remarkable. Who would have imagined Karen Carney as a dancer, gracing national television with such grace and ease? It's a testament to her versatility and hard work. Fingers crossed, she'll be lifting that glitter ball next Saturday!"
