In a thrilling announcement, Tom Wilson and Logan Thompson, players from the Washington Capitals, have been named to Team Canada for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina 2026. This exciting news not only recognizes their exceptional performances during the first half of the 2025-26 NHL season but also marks a significant milestone for both athletes as they prepare to don the Canadian jersey on the Olympic stage.
Wilson, a forward known for his powerful play, expressed his deep appreciation for this honor, stating, "At the end of the day, we’re hockey players, and being called upon by your country to compete in the Olympics is the highest recognition you can achieve. It’s truly a dream come true. While it may sound cliché, every Canadian kid grows up wanting to win both the Stanley Cup and an Olympic gold medal."
The moment was made even more special for Wilson when, shortly after receiving the news, he celebrated with a stellar performance against the New York Rangers, scoring two goals and adding an assist in a 6-3 victory at Capital One Arena. His teammates were equally thrilled, with goalie Charlie Lindgren sharing, "It was a pretty special moment before the game today. We showered those guys with love and appreciated what they’ve accomplished. It’s really cool for them."
Thompson, who did not participate in the initial game of the Capitals' back-to-back fixtures, joined Wilson later to reflect on their selection. This season, Wilson has been a standout, tallying 40 points with 21 goals and 19 assists over 39 games. His impressive stats include leading the Capitals in goals, power-play goals (seven), and hits (105), making him a key player in their lineup.
